Inman Aligner

Are you troubled by crowded or protruding front teeth? It’s a common concern for many adults. And it may feel like when you smile, that’s the only thing that people notice.

Perhaps you’ve wanted to improve the appearance of those crooked front teeth for years, but the idea of wearing braces has caused you to continue putting off treatment.

At Summercrest Dental, we have a solution. The Inman Aligner is a modern orthodontic technique that uses a discreet appliance to guide your front teeth back into proper alignment. Dr. Gilstrap is one of only two certified Inman Aligner providers in the Kansas City area!

What Is the Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner fits over your front teeth like a retainer. Clear aligners that fit in front of and behind your teeth exert gentle pressure to move your front teeth into their correct alignment.

Because of the pressure coming from two different angles, the Inman Aligner works very quickly. In fact, most cases are completed within just eighteen weeks! Treatment time may vary, of course, and Dr. Gilstrap will give you a good idea of how long you can expect your treatment to take.

What Are the Advantages of the Inman Aligner?

Two of the biggest advantages of the Inman Aligner are its reduced treatment time and the fact that it can be removed. If you have an important event coming up, simply remove the aligner during the event. Unlike other aligner systems, you won’t need to change out your appliance, so your cost may be significantly reduced. The Inman Aligner is considerably less costly than traditional orthodontics.

Unlike traditional braces, which require bonding of brackets to your teeth, the Inman Aligner is made from materials that are gentle to your teeth and won’t damage your enamel. You also won’t have to deal with the hassle and discomfort of broken wires.

Many people choose to use the Inman Aligner with other cosmetic treatments as part of a total smile makeover. Do you have any special events coming up in the next year where you’d like to look your very best?

The Health Benefits of Straight Teeth

While many people choose to straighten their teeth because they are concerned about appearance, others wonder if they should bother. After all, crooked front teeth are often considered an endearing imperfection.

The problem is that crooked teeth, even when just your front teeth are affected, impact the health of your mouth. When your teeth are crowded, it’s difficult to brush and floss them properly. Unfortunately, even though your toothbrush and dental floss can’t get between your teeth, bacteria still can. This can lead to decay between your teeth and an increased risk of periodontal disease.

Additionally, misaligned front teeth can affect your occlusion, or the way your teeth fit together. When your teeth don’t fit together properly, you risk uneven wear, exposed dentin, sensitivity, and even problems like bruxism (chronic clenching and grinding) and temporomandibular joint disorder (problems with the joint connecting your upper and lower jaw).

Can Inman Aligner Help Me?

Dr. Gilstrap is happy to perform an examination to see if the Inman Aligner is the right choice for you for correcting your misaligned front teeth. If your teeth need orthodontic care beyond what the Inman Aligner can provide, he’ll discuss your other options so that you can make an informed choice about your dental care.

Invisalign is a series of very low profile, clear aligners that are worn all day. Invisalign is used to move all the teeth in the mouth and typically takes anywhere from 6-15 months to complete.  Inman Aligner is a larger appliance, more comparable to a retainer, that is worn about 16 hours a day to move the front teeth. Typical Inman aligner cases take anywhere from 6-12 weeks to complete. In summary, the Inman Aligner is used exclusively to straighten front teeth, but does not have to be worn the entire day and gets results quickly.  Inman Aligner also costs less than Invisalign.

The Inman Aligner is a removable orthodontic appliance that is used to align crowded, crooked front teeth.

That depends on whether or not your specific policy has an adult orthodontic benefit. Our office manager Stefanie can look at your policy with you in order to find out.
